Eye Health FAQ

How often should I have an eye test?

Regular eye examinations are important for maintaining good vision and overall eye health. Many eye conditions develop gradually and without obvious symptoms, so routine assessments help detect issues early, often before you notice any changes in your sight. For most children and adults, it is recommended every 2 years.

You may need more frequent assessments if you have Diabetes, Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration (AMD), Cataract etc, or a family history of these or other conditions; or wear contact lenses; or notice changes in your vision. If you have any questions, book in to see our friendly optometrists to tailor your eye care.

If you experience sudden vision changes, eye pain, flashes, floaters, or persistent headaches, book an appointment as soon as possible.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Please bring your current glasses, contact lens details and case (if you wear contact lenses), and a list of any medications you are currently taking.

Do you accept private health insurance?

Yes, we accept all major private health insurance providers including Medibank, Bupa, HCF, NIB and more. We have HICAPS available on-site for immediate claim processing — simply swipe your health fund card and pay the gap on the spot.

How much does an eye test cost?

There is a consultation fee for eye examinations at Lewis & McConnell. We can claim your Medicare entitlement for the consultation and have it directed back into your account. If spectacles or contact lenses are prescribed, your private health fund's optical cover can also be used towards the cost of your eyewear — we have HICAPS on-site for easy on-the-spot claiming. Please call us on (03) 9807 4288 for current consultation fees.

Do you see new patients?

Absolutely — new patients are always welcome at Lewis & McConnell. You can book online via www.lewisandmcconnell.com.au or call us on (03) 9807 4288. We recommend booking in advance as appointments fill quickly.
